Forest modelling

The aim of this part is to better understand the ecological processes that determine the invasion success of Ailanthus altissima and to evaluate alternative management strategies.

The established forest landscape model LandClim will be used to simulate the spread of Ailanthus altissima and to identify determinants of its invasion success. The simulations will be run with four different management strategies and for both current and future climate scenarios.
Important tasks of the project will be:

  • to adapt LandClim to represent Ailanthus altissima, and
  • to perform model calibration and validation using approaches such as pattern oriented modelling and approximate Bayesian calibration
