Xylem

Rings absent, vessels solitary, vessel diameter 50-100 mµ, simple perforations, intervessel pits round, some cells are filled with dark staining substances (phenols?), fibers thick walled, with distinct small round pits, parenchyma in uniseriate tangential bands, rays uni-seriate with quadrangular and upright cells. Phloem

Under the epidermis are thin walled parenchymatic cells (assimilating tissue). Below is a belt with central vascular bundles (phloem in the center), embedded in slightly sclerotised cells. An endodermis delimits the cortex from the cork zone consisting square, pitless shoe box like cells. This zone arise from the pericycle zone, which consists mainly of spirally thickened, very long, unlignified cells. The phloem consists on radial grouped sieve cells and parenchyma and spiral cells.
