Red list of threatened macrofungi
The Red List of threatened macrofungi of Switzerland 2007 lists all ascomycetes and basidiomycetes, classified as macrofungi and known to occur in the country, together with their categories of threat according to the IUCN criteria. 32 % of all macrofungi with a reasonable state of knowledge are threatened. Nutrient poor grasslands, mires, and coarse woody debris are habitats with high percentages of threatened fungi. A WSL team gathered various data on native species in order to evaluate each species in regard of extent of occurrence and area of occupancy, population size and temporal fluctuations. This evaluation has led to the estimation of the actual thread. 1876 species, among them most of the highly estimated edible fungi such as chantarelle and bolete are widely distributed in Switzerland with a large population size and therefore not considered as endangered. The Red List of threatened macrofungi helps to implement measurements in conservation.
