The Research Unit Biodiversity and Conservation Biology studies the diversity of life in all its forms, from genetic diversity to the diversity of species, their interactions and ecosystems. In collaboration with partners such as federal, cantonal and local authorities, we develop science-based management options for the protection of biodiversity and the natural resources of Switzerland. Group BiodiversityLeader: Prof. Dr. Christoph Scheidegger; Stv. Silvia Stofer Studies patterns of biodiversity in riparian ecosystems or in lichens and holds the national data bases for lichens and fungi Group Conservation BiologyLeader: Dr. Kurt Bollmann; Stv. Dr. Martin Obrist Investigates the population biology of threatened species aiming to optimise their management with focus on forests Group Ecosystem DynamicsLeader: Dr. Ariel Bergamini; Stv. Dr. Meinrad Küchler Monitors the quality of the habitats of the Swiss national inventories, i.e. mires and bogs, dry meadows and pastures, riparian ecosystems and amphibian breeding sites Group Ecological GeneticsLeader: Dr. Felix Gugerli; Stv. Daniela Csencsics Uses genetic methods to determine ecological processes within landscapes and to study species adaptation to changing environments Group PhytopathologyLeader: Dr. Daniel Rigling; Stv. Dr. Simone Prospero Investigates and monitors fungal pathogens of forest trees and develops methods for their biological control |
