Measurement StationsRunoffOriginally, runoff was measured with so-called Bazin-stations (top left figure). In Octobre 1927, they were replaced by rectangular Thompson cross sections, as shown in the top right figure. Building the new Rappengraben station presented the opportunity to shift its location 300 m upstream onto solid rock (see map). The present Rappengraben station was built in 1964 (bottom left figure) and has undergone only minor modifications since that time. The 1927 Thompson-station in Sperbelgraben is still operating. In August 2000, the cross section was extended by 40-cm high, vertical walls on each side of the channel and a new cabin was built (bottom right figure). Since 2001 (Rappengraben) and 2002 (Sperbelgraben) runoff has been recorded digitally. Until then, the data was digitalized manually from automatically plotted hydrographs. PrecipitationUntil 1957, precipitation in both catchments was measured at three locations at different altitudes. There is a data gap from November to December 1957. Between January 1958 and December 1960, daily precipitation had to be reconstructed based on monthly sums and the daily records of nearby stations. Since 1961 precipitation has been measured at one station per catchment. Overview of measurement stations and their operating time: Sperbelgraben
