Impact of the CH2014 climate scenarios on water resources - an estimate for Switzerland
CH2014-Impacts

This is a cross-sectorial quantitative impact study for Climate Change in Switzerland, which extends the qualitative assessment of the OcCC/ProClim “Climate Change and Switzerland 2050”. The aim is to bring together the expertise from different research groups in Switzerland. The new climate data (temperature and precipitation) prepared for the CH2011 (see www.ch2011.ch) shall be used as a common forcing to make the results of different groups and disciplines consistent.

NRP61-thematic synthesis "basics"
NRP61-synthesis

Plants stabilise slopes
Shear-apparatus

Switzerland is characterised by mountains. Many settlements therefore need protection against landslides and erosion. Plants are often used to stabilise slopes, in addition to wooden and concrete constructions. A new experimental device, developed by SLF technicians, will assist scientists to quantify the stabilising effects of plants.

SNF Project: Sediment transport measurements with geophone sensor
Sediment transport measurements with geophone sensors

The signal created by the kinetic impacts of bedload material registered by the geophone over an impact plate is a possible way to quantify bedload transport (The number of impulses per unit time being proportional to the total bedload volume of an event). The project aims to identify the main factors influencing the response of the geophone and to determine which aspects of calibration can be generalized in un-calibrated field sites. Further on, the possibility to extract grain size information from the geophone measurements will be explored

Hydrometeorological analysis of the 9-10 October 2011 flood event
October 2011 flood event

IFKIS Hydro Sihl
IFKIS Hydro Sihl

WSL develops and operates a probabilistic flood forecasting system for the pre-alpine catchment of the river Sihl. Floods can be detected early through a series of daily performed predictions.

BAFU-Project: Sediment Transport in Alpine Catchments
BAFU-Project: Sediment Transport in Alpine Catchments

SNF project: Field measurements of sediment-flux-driven bedload erosion
Bedload erosion

In this project the effect of erosion by bedload transport is investigated in mountain streams.

Hazard mapping in Mattertal VS: Data acquisition and numerical modeling of debris flows
The Mattertal

DROUGHT CH: Early recognition of critical drought conditions in Switzerland - coping with shortages in soil moisture, groundwater and runoff
DROUGHT CH

Droughts and heat waves are expected to become more frequent in Switzerland due to climate change. Droughts have major impacts on water resources, public health, ecosystems and consequently the economy. However, relevant information about relevant economic and societal impacts and knowledge about adequate coping strategies are still lacking.
