Reinforced Vegetation Numerical Evaluation of Slopes (REVENUES)
Reinforced Vegetation Numerical Evaluation of Slopes

Vegetation acts as a reinforcement for slopes due to the penetration of roots into the ground. The aim of the project is to contribute to a sophisticated software for the prediction of the three-dimensional numerical analysis of slope stabilized with vegetation.

SNF Project: Sediment transport measurements with geophone sensor
Sediment transport measurements with geophone sensors

The signal created by the kinetic impacts of bedload material registered by the geophone over an impact plate is a possible way to quantify bedload transport (The number of impulses per unit time being proportional to the total bedload volume of an event). The project aims to identify the main factors influencing the response of the geophone and to determine which aspects of calibration can be generalized in un-calibrated field sites. Further on, the possibility to extract grain size information from the geophone measurements will be explored

SNF project: Field measurements of sediment-flux-driven bedload erosion
Bedload erosion

In this project the effect of erosion by bedload transport is investigated in mountain streams.

HYDRALP
HYDRALP

The project HYDRALP deals with the topic of transport processes such as debris flows and fluvial bedload transport during flood events in torrents and mountain rivers of the canton Valais

Shallow landslides and hillslope debris flows

Long-term bedload monitoring
Bedload transport

Accurate measurements of bedload transport in natural channels are important to improve process understanding and predictive methods. The geophone sensors of the WSL provide continuous measurements with high temporal resolution.
