Pilot-project extraction of coniferous/deciduous tree species for entire canton Bern

For the entire area of canton Bern a workflow to distinguish semi-automatically between coniferous / deciduous trees using ADS80 images. The workflow incorporates selection of NFI training data, derivation of explanatory variables from the aerial images, classification, accuracy assessment and prediction of the species.

The obtained overall accuracies are very promising and in the range of 95% or higher for the distinction between coniferous and deciduous trees for an area of several 1000 km2. This projects will be the starting point for  the derivation of  the degree of mixture for entire Switzerland.
