The project Landscape Monitoring Switzerland measures state and development of Swiss landscapes with approx. 30 indicators embracing physical, biological an social aspects. For about half of the indicators research is required for indicator definition and protocol development. This is the role of WSL in the project. The research module consists of a landscape ecological part and a social scientific part.
Topics: accessibility of recreational areas, land use, light pollution, landscape aesthetics, landscape quality in residential environments, etc.
Methods: remote sensing (e.g. MODIS), GIS modeling, representative surveys in the Swiss population
