Das Projekt "Biodiversität und Raumentwicklung" untersucht Zusammenhänge zwischen Biodiversität und Raumentwicklung auf Landschaftsebene. Dafür analysieren wir Daten des Schweizer Mittelands im Allgemeinen sowie der Kantone Aargau und Luzern im Speziellen für möglichst verschiedene Organismengruppen und unterschiedliche Aspekte der Biodiversität. Die Resultate werden kartographisch dargestellt und können zur Visualisierung von Szenarien der Landschaftsentwicklung eingesetzt werden.

L'obiettivo del progetto è di investigare la fauna e la flora associata ai vigneti, definire i fattori geografici, ambientali e gestionali che determinano le diverse componenti della biodiversità, valutare l’influenza del paesaggio circostante e infine quantificare il valore ecologico dei vigneti attraverso confronto con altri ambienti naturali.

FireLess II is an innovative wireless sensor network developed by EnvEve SA and WSL in collaboration with the University of Turin allowing the acquisition of real time data for monitoring fuel parameters such as litter and humus moisture in specific forest stands.

At the WSL in Bellinzona we started developing a new monoplotting interface with the aim of offering an intuitive platform for georeferencing and orthorectifying ordinary individual photographs in order to produce georeferenced vector data by drawing them directly on the pictures and exchanging them with traditional GIS-Systems.

The project aims to improve forest fire prevention under a changing climate in the Alpine Space, by creating a shared warning system based on weather conditions. The fire regime at any given location is the result of complex interactions between fuels, social issues, topography, ignitions and weather conditions. The analysis of fires frequency and distribution will allow to model forest fire danger in the alpine region.

Wissenschafter erfassen alle Kastanien des Tessins und des Misox, die einen Brusthöhendurchmesser von mehr als 2.2 Metern aufweisen. Sie analysieren das Verteilungsmuster der Bäume, führen dendrochronologische Studien über Alter und Geschichte durch und sensibilisieren die breite Öffentlichkeit für diese Baumgreisen.

Nach dem grossen Waldbrand von Leuk 2003 muss die Brandfläche von den meisten Insekten neu besiedelt werden. Wir untersuchen, wie schnell diese Wiederbesiedlung auf verschiedenen Höhenstufen erfolgt und welche Präferenzen die holzbewohnenden Insekten bei der Besiedlung der abgestorbenen Bäume haben.

Swissfire is the new forest fire database of Switzerland, which has been developed in a joint effort by WSL and FOEN (Federal Office for the Environment). Now all information on forest fires is being collected in one central data base, which is an optimal tool for forest fire management.

Nell'ambito di una ricerca multidisciplinare sulla storia della protoindustria del carbone di legna, si intende ampliare le conoscenze sulla distribuzione delle piazze dei carbonai nelle valli sudalpine, offrendo al pubblico l'opportunità di segnalare la presenza di queste piazze tramite un questionario internet.
