Unrivalled data collection – avalanche accidents in the Swiss Alps

In 1998 the SLF began recording in a database all known avalanches since 1970 that have caused personal injury or property damage. The very extensive destructive avalanche database, which is without parallel worldwide, now contains 14,000 records. The existence of this collection facilitates the retrieval and analysis of accident data, as necessary for the publication of accident reports for example.
