Research objectives of research group Social Sciences in Landscape Research

We study the interactions between society and landscape development using social science methods (e.g. qualitative interviews, standardised questionnaires, photo experiments, and action research). We investigate people’s needs regarding future landscape development and explore how to ensure that the landscape develops sustainably and meets people’s needs.

What expectations do people have from nature, landscape and space?

Values, knowledge, needs, motivations...

What attitudes do people have regarding (former), current and future development of nature, landscape and space?

Landscape preferences, acceptance of nature conservation....

What effects do nature, landscape and space have on people?

Recreation, health, ...

How do people behave with regard to nature, landscape and space, and how can this behaviour be actively influenced?

(Recreational) land use, participation behaviour, decision making...
