SorSim
SorSim

SorSim is a platform-independent software tool which is able to classify a list of trees into the commercially available assortments in Switzerland. The algorithm models the stem form according to “Lemm 1991” or “LFI-splines”. The function “LFI-splines” requires besides diameter at breast height and the height of the tree the diameter at a height of 7 meters.

Experimental field test of six exotic tree species
Exotic tree species

Exotic tree species, which are adapted to a warmer and dryer climate, could contribute to coping with climate change. Six such species are tested in a long-term field experiment near Mutrux (Canton of Vaud).

Macro- and micro morphological reactions to low soil water availability in the foliage of Scots pine from Wallis
Macro- and micro morphological reactions to low soil water availability in the foliage of Scots pine from Wallis

In this project, the structural changes in foliage of Scots pine are used as sensitive bioindications of environmental constraints to study the reactions of dry pine forests in Wallis to low soil water availability and changes in land use.

Schweizerisches Landesforstinventar
LFI

Foliar symptoms specific for ozone stress in southern Brazil
Foliar symptoms specific for ozone stress in rain forest trees of southern Brazil

The toxic effects of tropospheric ozone concentrations on plants have been reported primarily for ecosystems from the northern hemisphere with a mediterranean, temperate or boreal climate. In the southern hemisphere with its tropical climate, the impact of ozone on natural ecosystems is still mostly unknown.

Long-term treeline research at Stillberg
Long-term treeline research

From 1975 to 1995, an intense monitoring of the planted pine, mountain pine and larch trees was carried out at Stillberg which is continued more extensively since 2005. A comparison with earlier records allows studying the influence of site factors and neighboring interactions in space and time.
