Long-term ecosystem research for future generations

How do man-made and natural stressors affect forests in the long term? Which risks result for the society? Since 1994 the Swiss Federal Research Institute WSL has addressed these questions on 18 sites representative of the Swiss forest ecosystems. Early September 2009 a series of events marked 15 years of Long-term Forest Ecosystem Research (LWF) and put the current state of knowledge into perspective.

Biodiversity: a diversity of research at WSL

By ratifying the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in 1994, Switzerland committed itself to monitor, protect and promote biodiversity. The Swiss federal research institute WSL contributes to this objective by conducting a wide range of research projects.
