WSL has about 500 employees, of which 350 work in Birmensdorf, 130 at the WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF in Davos, 20 each in Bellinzona and Lausanne and two in Sierre, canton of Valais.
WSL is very international with people originating from more than 20 countries. WSL is also committed to education: each year more than 100 internships, about 75 PhD theses and numerous master and bachelor theses are supervised and 16 apprentices are trained. Along with the scientific staff, which make up 60% of all employees, there are also technicians (about 30%) and administrators (10%). Forty percent of the employees are women.
