Interessi di ricerca

• Modellizzare processi spazio-temporali di ecosistemi naturali e semi-naturali sulla base di indicatori biotici di biodiversità, comunità e gruppi funzionali.
• Ricerca sul effetto dei cambiamenti del uso del suolo e sulle componenti biotiche degil ecosistemi (piante e animali); Resilienza ecologica e funzionale.
• Studio delle specie minacciate di estinzione e sensibili ai cambiamenti del uso del suolo.

Aree di ricerca

• Risposta tassonomica e funzionale delle comunità animali e vegetali ai cambiamenti del uso in ecosistemi forestali, agro-pastorali e urbani.
• Resilienza tassonomica e funzionale ai disturbi ecologici e confronto tra diversi tipi di disturbi (p.es. fuoco, alluvioni, gestione forestale, urbanizzazione, pratiche agricole ecc.).
• Specie aliene invasive - Ecologia, distribuzione, ruolo ecologico ed impatto sui ecosistemi e la biodiversità.
• Relazione cambiamenti dell’uso del suolo, cambiamenti della composizione delle specie e dei tratti funzionali e risposta dei processi ecosistemici (catene trofiche e ciclo della materia).

• BiodiverCity: Valore ecologico e sociale della natura in città (NRP 54 Sviluppo sostenibile dell’ambiente costruito). Capo progetto.
• Il ruolo delle selve castanili per i pipistrelli (SELPI). Capo progetto.
• L’effetto delle selve di castagni abbandonate sulla comunità degli uccelli (AviSelva). Capo progetto.
• L’effetto dei incendi sulle piante (progetto EU Fire-Paradox). Co-responsabile.
• L’influenza di incendi sulla biodiversità della fauna invertebrata nelle foreste decidue al Sud delle Alpi. Capo progetto.
• Successione degli invertebrati dopo l’incendio di Leuk (Vallese) del 2003 e resilienza delle comunità. Capo del modulo fauna.
• L’effetto della specie aliene invasive Reynoutria japonica sulla composizione tassonomica e funzionale degli invertebrati. Collaborazione con l’Istituto CABI Délémont.
• Cistus salviifolius, una specie pirofila al Sud delle Alpi - Distribuzione, diversità genetica e strategia di sopravvivenza della specie al limite della sua area di distribuzione.
• Valutare l’effetto degli incendi e della ceduazione sulla fauna invertebrata dei cedui castanili del Sud delle Alpi.
• Valutazione dell’effetto del abbandono della gestione tradizionale dei castagni monumentali sulla fauna invertebrata.
• Effetto dei cambiamenti dell’uso del suolo sulla relazione tra comunità piante-erbivori a livello tassonomico e funzionale (composizione dei tratti) e dei processi trofici e del ciclo della materia.
