Professional activities

Calculation of past and current climate maps (temperature, precipitation, radiation) of various regions and resolutions by interpolating daily meteorological observations from climate stations. Calculation of monthly, yearly and longterm summary statistics and derived variables as for example degree days or potential evapotranspiration (bioclimate). Application of climate change scenarios to these climate maps to create climate prediction maps. All results can serve as inputs to vegetation models.

Design, programming and administration of various databases and applications:

Daymeteo A large data warehouse containing daily meteorological observations from different sources all over the world.
TWW (Inventar der Trockenwiesen und -weiden der Schweiz). This spatiotemporal database holds all current and working stages of the inventory's objects and the evaluation program.
DENDRO WSL's Dendrochronological Database. All tree ring parameters can be accessed and downloaded using the Dendro Database Surfer for attribute based queries or the Dendrochronology GIS for spatial queries.
FAUNA The faunistic database contains catch data of invertebrates and is a central resource of the project Faunistic inventory methods for invertebrates.

ORACLE database administration, ArcSDE administration, High-Performance Cluster computing, programming in various languages on Solaris, Linux, Darwin (Macintosh) and sometimes even Windows.
