Research interests

My PhD dissertation is about 'bedload transport in steep mountain streams'. I am interested in the interactions of grain-sizes and streambed roughness with flow hydraulics and sediment transport. The background for my analysis are a broad range of field measurements in steep mountain streams regarding channel morphology, flow conditions and sediment transport, i.e.:

  • terrestrial laser scanning of stream bed surfaces
  • dye tracer experiments to determine flow discharge and velocity
  • tagging natural gravels with RFID transponders and track their movements in the channel to determine transport distances, velocities and residence times
  • bedload transport measurements using bedload traps
  • bedload transport measurements using geophones
