Research Topics

Land resources management:

Optimized land use allocation in respect of the ecological bearing capacity of the natural resources, the economic needs of the society and the social value of the sites. Decision support and negotiation in land use conflicts.

Soil protection:

Evaluate the consequences of mechanical impact on soils due to soil use and management. Assessment of soil compaction. Assessment of the quality and development of restored soils.

Soil bio-engineering:

Identify the mechanical effect of living plant roots on land slide prevention.

Main Activities

In charge of the WSL-research focus 'Land resources management in peri-urban environments'. Research in  critical values for soil compaction. Teaching in land resources management at the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatics Engineering at ETH-Zurich.

Curriculum Vitae

Born in 1962. Studies of environmental engineering at the Swiss Federal Institut of Technology Zurich (ETH), 1991 PhD. 1991-1994 scientific collaborator at the Office of Soil Protection of the canton of Zurich. 1995-2001 senior assistant at the Institute of Land Improvement and Water Management at ETH-Zurich. Since July 2001 head of the research focus 'Land Resources Management in Peri-Urban Environments' at the Federal Research Institute WSL.
