Research interests

I am fascinated by the question why species and individuals are where they are, how they get there and how they manage to sustain. In my work, I combine ecological theory, statistical and mechanistic modelling approaches, and empirical data. My research covers several scales and studies drivers of broad-scale species distributions, population dynamics as well as individual fitness, and how these are affected by inter- and intraspecific interactions. More recently, I also became interested in understanding and modelling the evolution of life-history characteristics, especially in migratory species.

  • climate change impacts on biodiversity
  • macroecology: species distribution and composition, biotic interactions, range dynamics
  • animal movement ecology and spatial ecology: optimal behaviour, individual fitness and population dynamics
  • methods include statistical species distribution modelling, spatially explicit dynamic population modelling, individual-based modelling

You find an overview of my work on the projects page.
