Felix Kienast is head of the division Landscape Dynamics and -Management. He obtained a University degree in Geography and did a PhD in Dendroecology. Afterwards he specialized in GIS-assisted landscape and vegetation modeling, environmental risk analysis and spatial modeling. He is program manager of various mapping projects that aim at simulating vegetation and landscape dynamics of mountainous landscapes by means of computer models.
Prior to coming to WSL he spent several years at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, USA, and was involved in various systems-ecology studies. Since 1991 a fruitful collaboration has evolved with Marcel Hunziker whose activities include landscape perception studies, lay assessments of landscape changes and public acceptance studies.
