MULVA 5.1
WHAT IS IT?
It is the same program as described in 1996:
Wildi, O. & Orlóci, L. (1996): Numerical Exploration of Community Patterns. A guide to the use of MULVA-5.
2nd edition. SPB Academic Publishing b.v., Amsterdam, 171 pp.
But of course with some new things in it...
WHY M5.1 INSTEAD OF M5?
(1) There is more in it. See, e.g., the following publication:
Wildi, O., Schütz, M., 2000: Reconstruction of a long-term recovery process from pasture to forest. Community Ecology 1 (1): 25-32.
(2) While porting on Mac OS X (10.3.2) I fixed several
bugs the new compilers identified.
(3) I found that all new FTN-Compilers have troubles to
handle tabulators consistently. In M5.1, files have to be imported in
EXCEL-CSV format or TEXT, using SEMICOLONS as separators.
(4) M5.1 on OS X has improved performance compared to previous versions.
The capacity is 5000 releves/species. 3000 Eigenvalues can be computed.
MAC OS X USERS
Important note: Files must be UNIX-type (see below)!
1 — IMPLEMENTATION
Drag the folder M51_OSX into your Documents folder. That's all!
2 — USING YOUR OWN DATA SETS
You have to change the line-endings, e.g., with program
Project Builder to ³UNIX type².
3 — USING EXPORT FILES
Opening files generated in M5.1 in MS-Word (drag files on the Word icon)
Automatically changes line-endings to Macintosh-type.
WINDOWS USERS
This is not yet available. We are working hard on it!
LINUX USERS?
Are there any? I would enjoy doing something for you!
