Silvicultural Land Use and Product Life Cycles
Thomas Köllner (UNS-ETH)

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is used for environmental planning and decision-making. However, silvicultural land use and its consequences for ecosystem quality still aren’t adequately taken into account in LCA. My objectives are (i) to develop a method of assessing land use impacts on biodiversity which is suitable for LCA, and (ii) to make a general method operable using empirical information on species diversity and different types of forests. I will develop a set of weighting factors EDPsp-div for different land use types that can be easily applied in damage oriented methods of Life Cycle Impact Assessment.
