  Bellinzona is in Switzerland’s Insubric region. The region is naturally already very multifaceted, and is currently experiencing socio-economic changes that are having dramatic effects on land use as well as cultural and biological diversity. Insubria therefore provides an ideal model region to gauge the effects of global changes on ecosystems.

In the Insubric region, WSL’s typical thematic areas are: chestnut groves and their cultivation, forest fires, invasive species (neobiota), as well as changes in traditional landscapes.
