Filling the land use gap: Analysis of high resolution satellite time-series

Within grasslands, land use intensity and land management have important implications for multifunctionality of landscapes and provisioning ecosystem services such as forage production, soil fertility, biodiversity, carbon dynamics or evapotranspiration. The aim of this project is to develop and test a new workflow to identify and assess the dynamic land use and management intensity of grasslands within Switzerland using the high spatial and temporal resolution PLANET (CubeSat) remote sensing imagery. Furthermore, we will develop a grassland land use layer at a 3m resolution for pilot study areas (Canton Aargau) which will be compatible with existing Swiss land use statistics (1 ha resolution) and the Swiss topographic landscape model (TLM).
