Leitung: Dr. Daniel Rigling
Wir erforschen und beobachten Krankheiten von Gehölzpflanzen (insbesondere Waldbäume und Ziergehölze) unter sich verändernden Umweltbedingungen und entwickeln biologische Bekämpfungsmethoden. Phytopathogene lösen bei Pflanzen Krankheiten aus und gefährden wichtige Ökosystemleistungen. Der Einfluss von Phytopathogenen wird durch den Klimawandel und die Globalisierung auch in der Schweiz zunehmend an Bedeutung gewinnen. Durch deskriptive und experimentelle Studien werden die Folgen von Klimawandel und Waldbewirtschaftung auf Baumkrankheiten erforscht. Dabei werden sowohl genetische wie auch epidemiologische Methoden verwendet um die räumliche und zeitliche Entwicklung von Pathogen-Populationen zu erfassen. Einen Schwerpunkt bilden invasive Quarantänepathogene, für deren sachgemässen Umgang die Gruppe spezielle Pflanzenschutzlabore betreibt.
Unsere Forschung dient als Grundlage für Risikoanalyse, Diagnostik und Kontrolle von Pflanzenkrankheiten (z.B. biologische Bekämpfung des Kastanienrindenkrebses, Cryphonectria parasitica). Wir unterstützen Bund und Kantone bei der Verhinderung und Eindämmung von Quarantänekrankheiten (z.B. Plötzliches Eichensterben, Phytophthora ramorum; Kiefernholznematode, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus; Pechkrebs der Föhre, Gibberella circinata).

Il cancro corticale del castagno è una pericolosa malattia del castagno. E stato diffuso in tutto il mondo e negli Stati Uniti ha portato alla pressoché totale scomparsa del castagno americano. In Europa, fortunatamente, questa malattia si diffonde in modo meno drammatico.
Le dépérissement des pousses du frêne est causée par un champignon originaire d‘Asie orientale. En Suisse, la maladie a été observée pour la première fois en 2008 dans la région bâloise. A l’heure actuelle, on ne connait aucune mesure efficace contre cette maladie.
Das Eschentriebsterben ist eine schwere Baumkrankheit, die von einem aus Ostasien eingeschleppten Pilz verursacht wird. In der Schweiz wurde das Eschentriebsterben erstmals 2008 im Grossraum Basel festgestellt. Bis heute sind keine wirkungsvollen Massnahmen gegen das Eschentriebsterben bekannt.

Le chancre de l’écorce du châtaignier est une dangereuse maladie corticale du châtaignier, causée par le champignon Cryphonectria parasitica. Introduite dans le monde entier, la maladie a quasiment fait disparaître le châtaignier d’Amérique des États-Unis. Aujourd’hui, elle affecte aussi presque toutes les châtaigneraies d’Europe. L’apparition de souches de champignon à la virulence atténuée se traduit toutefois par une évolution de la maladie nettement plus bénigne dans les peuplements européens. Cette hypo virulence est due à une infection du champignon par un virus. Ce dernier peut se transmettre de champignon à champignon, et est ainsi utilisé dans la lutte biologique contre le chancre de l’écorce du châtaignier
Der Kastanienrindenkrebs ist eine gefährliche Rindenkrankheit der Edelkastanie. In Europa ist die Krankheit heute in fast allen Kastanienbeständen vorhanden. Ein Virus wird in der biologischen Bekämpfung des Kastanienrindenkrebses eingesetzt.
