GenWood

Exploring the genomic basis of wood anatomy
In this innovative and interdisciplinary project, we aim to link genomic and dendro-phenotypic data in Norway Spruce (Picea abies) to study the genomic basis of wood anatomy. The project builds on resources available in the framework of the H2020 project GenTree and will exploit dateable and functionally relevant xylem traits and connect them to underlying genes. We expect to identify genes and gene pathways involved in wood/xylem anatomical variation and their role in adaptation to a changing climate. This is relevant for assessing the adaptive potential of forest trees under climate change to provide urgent knowledge for adaptive forest management.
