Optimized forest planning for the provision of biodiversity and ecosystem services

Sustainable and multifunctional forest planning is a complex and demanding task and requires appropriate decision support systems. By using them, optimal silvicultural management strategies can be identified to provide forest biodiversity and ecosystem services to society in the best possible way. An optimization model will be developed in the frame of this project to determine the optimal segregation of management strategies that can best fulfill the diverse services. By using the method of robust optimization, the aspect of uncertainty will be considered at the same time. The optimization model will be developed and tested methodically using different regions in different cantons [Source picture: Clemens Blattert]
