The fire ecology of the European beech

Main menu

Beech forests are widespread in Central Europe, but are relatively little affected by forest fires. In the context of climate change, however, fires in beech forests are becoming increasingly frequent and severe. Against this background, the idea was born to initiate a specific study on the fire ecology of beech. The University of Turin (Davide Ascoli) and the Swiss Federal Research Institute WSL (Janet Maringer, Tom Wohlgemuth, Marco Conedera) collaborated in this study.
