Research Interests

I study how plants and forest ecosystems respond to their environment and how the complex interplay between phenotypic traits determines such responses. Drone-based remote sensing is becoming an increasingly powerful tool to alleviate the challenges of traditional measurements of plant traits at the leaf and canopy level and to extrapolate assessment to the ecosystem scale. Much of my current work is focused on finding and validating relationships between drone remote sensing spectral proxies and physiological processes, and in a second step, use these relationships to understand and predict trees phenology, stress responses to drought and acclimation to a changing climate. Further interests include the scaling of the gained process knowledge to landscape, regional and global scale using satellite datasets and model-data synthesis.
