Professional Experience

1995 - today

Research associate at WSL, Birmensdorf, Switzerland.
Development of climate maps of various regions, scales and resolutions by interpolating daily meteorological observations from climate stations. Downscaling of current climate or climate scenario maps and derivation of bioclimatic variables (e.g. degree days, potential evapotranspiration) for applications in species distribution models (SDMs) or forest landscape models (TreeMig). Design, Implementation of Oracle and Postgresql data bases (e.g. FAUNA: Inventory of arthropod catches) and their application in research projects. Programming (shell scripts, SQL, PL/pgSQL, Python, R, awk, CDO, GIS, XML, NetCDF). High performance computing (HPC). Member of WSL IT Committee (WIKOM).

1995

Temporary position as Geologist at CSD Ingenieure AG, Kriens, Switzerland.
Geological mapping, geological and structural investigations, laboratory work.

1988 - 1995

Research and Teaching Assistant at the Institute of Mineralogy and Petrography (MPI), University of Bern, Switzerland.
Research in petrology. Assistence of students in practical courses of mineralogy, geologic field trips and mapping courses. Design, programming, application and administration of various databases. Database System Administration.

1986 - 1988

Research and Teaching Assistant at the Institute for Mineralogy and Petrography (IMP), ETH Zürich, Switzerland.
Research in petrography and petrology. Assistence of students in practical courses of mineralogy. Laboratory work.

Academic Education

1993 - 1995

Post-Doc, Institute of Mineralogy and Petrography, University of Bern, Switzerland.
Research in geology and petrology of the Central Alps.

1988 - 1993

Ph.D., Institute of Mineralogy and Petrography, University of Bern, Switzerland. Dissertation: Consistent documentation, analysis and interpretation of mesoalpine metamorphic mineral assemblages of the Central Alps. Compiliation of a geological und mineralchemical Inventory of the Central Alps by means of a large relational data base. Literature, field and laboratory work (electron microprobe). Thermobarometric calculations using this data base and development of isotherm and isobar maps of the mesoalpine metamorphism.

1983 - 1988

Master of Science, Institute for Mineralogy and Petrography, ETH Zürich, Switzerland. Master's thesis: Structure and metamorphism of the metapelites in the Ivrea-Zone (Valle d'Ossola, Province of Novara, Northern Italy). Fieldwork (geological mapping, analysis of structures) and laboratory analyses (microscope, electron microprobe) lead to new results concerning structure and history of the Ivrea zone.
