
Fonctions écosystémiques

Les écosystèmes remplissent des fonctions importantes, également utiles à la société. Nous analysons comment la biodiversité influence les fonctions et les services écosystémiques ainsi que les conséquences des modifications de la biodiversité.
Les écosystèmes, c’est-à-dire les milieux naturels et les organismes vivants qui s’y trouvent, remplissent une série de fonctions essentielles. Par exemple, les écosystèmes produisent de la biomasse, filtrent et stockent l’eau, assurent la pollinisation des plantes dans l’agriculture, transforment et décomposent les substances organiques et inorganiques et préservent ainsi la fertilité des sols.
Nombre de ces processus sont directement utiles à la société. Les forêts et les marais stockent du CO2, nous profitons de l’eau potable filtrée par les sols forestiers, nous pouvons récolter des fruits et légumes grâce à la pollinisation des insectes ou encore nous détendre en forêt et y prendre un bol d'air frais. La forêt nous protège en outre des crues et des dangers naturels, tels que les chutes de pierres et les avalanches. On qualifie de services écosystémiques ces services qu’un écosystème fournit à la société.
Les activités humaines marquent les écosystèmes
La société ne se contente pas de profiter des écosystèmes, elle les influence: le type d’utilisation du sol et les changements climatiques ont des impacts considérables sur les fonctions et les services de l’écosystème, car la diversité des espèces est un indice important de la stabilité écosystémique. L’exploitation intensive réduit par exemple la biodiversité et peut ainsi influencer négativement des services écosystémiques essentiels, notamment la pollinisation des plantes utiles ou la lutte naturelle contre les parasites.
Nous étudions comment certaines espèces, caractéristiques d’espèces, groupes d’espèces, la diversité des espèces et leurs interactions influencent les fonctions et les services écosystémiques. Dans nos travaux, nous prenons en compte les modifications d’affectation des sols, les perturbations naturelles et les changements climatiques. À l’aide de comparaisons historiques et de modélisations statistiques, nous pouvons prédire les développements futurs des écosystèmes, par exemple comment la biodiversité se modifiera, comment ce changement influera sur les services écosystémiques et à partir de quand des modifications de la biodiversité ne permettront plus de garantir la stabilité des écosystèmes.

In der vorliegenden Medienanalyse wird die Wahrnehmung und Thematisierung von Flussrenaturierungen bzw. -revitalisierungen in unterschiedlichen Zeitungstiteln der Kantone Bern und Wallis über den Zeitraum von 2000 bis 2013 rekonstruiert. Im Zentrum der Arbeit steht das Verstehen dieser medienöffentlichen Prozesse.
Die Kernfragen des WSL-Forschungsprogramm «Raumansprüche von Mensch und Natur» lauteten: Wie können sich Siedlung und Landschaft in den Fallstudienregionen Oberes Freiamt (AG), Luzerner Seetal (LU), Linthebene (SG) und Glarus Nord (GL) bis ins Jahr 2030 weiterentwickeln? Wie kann die Entwicklung in nachhaltige Bahnen gelenkt werden? Der Synthesebericht gibt Antworten.
