Developing a tool for Swiss Citizen Scientists to automatically identify plant species in the field

In the related COMECO project, we are developing a deep-learning algorithm that is capable of accurately identifying Swiss plant species from images and coordinates. Here, in close collaboration with Info Flora, we aim to make this capacity freely available to amateur and professional botanists. To this end we develop FlorID, an identification tool that will be made available through a web platform (here is the test version) and in the popular FlorApp. Moreover, a public API will be linked to the webplatform that allows any interested mobile phone developer to easily and freely integrate FlorID into their own apps, as long as the number of requests per time is kept at a reasonable level. These developments will support users in the field and Info Flora in the quality control of their database.
