Balancing ecosystem services in forest management - conflicts and synergies

The simultaneous production of forest resources and nature conservation is challenging forest management world-wide. Even in Europe, where multipurpose forest management has a long tradition the rising complexity in terms of different and changing priority functions (e.g. wood, carbon, safety, recreation, biodiversity), and the Global Change-induced fast shifting bio-physical and socio-economic context as pre-condition for forest management, new concepts of adaption and case specific tools and management options are urgently needed.
