Research Interests

Understanding and predicting the effects behind biodiversity loss is one of the most urgent tasks faced by ecologists. Studies of human impacts on biodiversity have primarily focused on the loss of species. However, beyond species loss, we are losing key species interactions that modulate the ecosystem functions and services on which we depend. In my research, I explore how defaunation, species invasions, and rewilding process re-structure interaction networks, and impact ecosystem services and economy. To explore these questions, I integrate population and community ecology, biogeography, network ecology, functional ecology, and the economic valuation of ecosystem services using field experiments and diverse analytical and modeling tools.
