Transversal section

   
  Semi-ring- to diffuse-porous. Pores in clusters, predominantly tangentially orientated. Tyloses occasionally present. Growth ring boundaries often festoon-like. Many wide rays, along growth ring boundaries protrude. Ground tissue cells in more or less tangential patches. Apotracheal and paratracheal parenchyma sparse.
 
 

Radial section

   
  Simple perforation plates. Homogeneous to heterogeneous rays, often with up to three rows of square or upright marginal cells. Ray cells thick-walled. Large ray-vessel pits. Libriform fibres occasionally septate, vasicentric tracheids frequent.
 
 

Tangential section

   
  Rays generally 4- to 8-seriate, often narrower or wider. Wide rays with large intercellular spaces frequent. Ray height often higher than 5 mm.
