Diffuse-porous. Pores can hardly be differentiated from axial and ray parenchyma: all cells are similar in size and shape. For this reason, growth ring boundaries and rays rather indistinct. Fibres very thick-walled, generally in small groups, forming indistinct oblique to tangential bands. |

Simple perforation plates. Rays only composed of upright cells. Ray cells in size and shape often scarcely different from axial parenchyma cells. Vessel pits slit-like, horizontal.
