Dendrochronology GIS

The Deondrochronology GIS-Viewer shows all dendrochronology locations of the Dendro Database on a World Map, allows spatial queries and accesses the information collected at any dendrochronology site.

Two layers are visible:

  1. The locations
  2. The World Vegetation Cover Map

Example how to use the Dendrochronology GIS-Viewer

  1. Startup: Open the Dendrochronology GIS-Viewer.
    » In the center is the map including a small overview maplet. The toolbar on the left is used to operate the application. On the right is the list of the visible layers or the legend of the map. At the lower rim the coordinates of the cursorposition are displayed.
  2. Zoom: Select the tool and draw a rectangle.
  3. Location info: If the locations layer is active, select the tool and click on a location or select the tool and draw a rectangle around several locations.
    » Below the map a table is displayed listing information on the selected locations.
    » The column "ID" contains a Hyperlink to the Dendro Database Surfer. (Using the tool, you can jump directly to the Dendro Database Surfer.)
    » If several locations were selected with the tool, the record numbers in column "Rec" are Hyperlinks which allow to zoom directly to the selected location.
  4. Database Queries: The tool can be used for simple searches. The tool allows for detailed database queries.
    » The sites are displayed on the map and their information is listed in the table below the map. The link "Zoom to these records" at the end of this table zooms to the selected sites.

Zooms to the previous extent Pans the map as the user drags the pointer across the map

Hyperlink to Dendro Database Surfer (only when Layer Locations is active) Displays a list of attributes for a selected feature
Constructs queries on MapService data Finds the map feature(s) based on a text string the user types
Measures distances on the map Sets the units for the Measure tool
Selects objects within a definable perimeter Selects objects within a rectangle
Selects objects along a line/polygon Unselects the current selection
Prints the current page
