Abstract ¶
Get Nature Positive is a Swiss start-up dedicated to restoring and fostering biodiversity by integrating ecological compensation into urban development. In Switzerland, where the construction of buildings and infrastructure poses a significant threat to natural habitats and connectivity, Get Nature Positive offers a new, credible mechanism to offset the negative impact on local biodiversity. The organisation works with companies and institutions that own or develop buildings.
A cornerstone of their approach is the issuance of independently verified certificates: the standard Get Nature Positive certificate fully compensates for sealed surfaces by creating new nature areas equivalent to 120% of the sealed area within the same biogeographic region. The Premium version also involves improving green spaces on site. These projects are secured for 20 years through long-term monitoring. In order to achieve this, it is necessary to measure biodiversity. Get Nature Positive uses a simple yet reliable ecological assessment method.
By collaborating with building owners, investors, public authorities and local partners, Get Nature Positive aims to establish interconnected, high-quality nature areas throughout Switzerland. This method delivers measurable biodiversity gains and complements ESG reporting, aligning with ISO 17298, GRI, TNFD and the EU Taxonomy. It also enhances corporate sustainability positioning and sometimes the value of a property. This seminar will explore how nature certification can transform construction practices, promote biodiversity, and contribute to a sustainable, nature-positive future.
About the speaker ¶
Simon L. Zeller, CEO of Get Nature Positive
Simon is an environmental scientist who gained his PhD in Ecology at UZH. Thanks to his extensive knowledge of nature, he can read the landscape like an open book and recognise its potential for ecological development. Having previously been responsible for biodiversity in the canton and city of St Gallen, and owning a 7.5-hectare farm in Appenzell, he knows what it takes to restore fens, forests, and wetlands. He founded Get Nature Positive in 2023 and lives with his family in Romanshorn.
