We analyse adaptation practices concerning mass movements and related risks. First, we review how adaptation strategies and action plans are implemented into practice at the national, cantonal and regional level. Second, we identify which factors motivate actors to deal (or not) with mass movements (barriers and opportunities for adaptation) using a qualitative research design based on case studies and expert interviews. These case studies will be carried out in the CCAMM demonstration sites and other regions in Switzerland experiencing significant consequences of climate change on mass movements. Investigations in the case study regions will also focus on different policy fields affected by mass movements and related cascading processes to investigate their adaptation responses. Third, we propose characteristics of good adaptation practice as policy recommendations and to transfer findings.
