Abstract

My seminar will focus on quantifying the emergence of latitudinal diversity gradients in the marine realm, from benthic invertebrates to planktonic foraminifera. I will delve into the potential driving mechanisms responsible for the higher diversity seen at low latitudes today, and why we may not see the same pattern in deeper time.

About the speaker

Erin Saupe is a palaeobiologist working to investigate interactions between life and environments over geological time scales. Research in the Saupe Lab addresses fundamental questions on the origin, maintenance, and conservation of biological diversity. More specifically, we integrate biological data with information from the fossil record to elucidate the controls on community and species’ responses to environmental change across various spatial and temporal scales.

Biodiversity Seminars

Our seminars are hybrid. Please send an email to events-biodiversity(at)wsl.ch if you would like to get access to the live stream.

The Biodiversity Seminar Series are organized by the WSL Biodiversity Center. Every two weeks, we aim to host a seminar speaker that presents research or outreach on topics relevant to the biodiversity community at WSL. The seminars are public and are usually broadcasted online.
