Theoretical knowledge and practical training on the production of high-quality (cell) anatomical data. The entire data production chain from sample collection, anatomical sample preparation, image capturing and (cell) anatomical measurements using ROXAS is covered.

ContentThe aim of the course is to submit basic theoretical information about the anatomy of woody plants and especially ecological wood anatomy. This will be done by demonstrating "the reality" (anatomical features) on the base of almost 400 micro sections which are prepared for each participant. A very important part of the course is the additional teaching of different anatomical preparation techniques.

European Dendroecological Fieldweek (EDF)

ContentThis field and lab course covers the full spectrum of dendrochronological topics, including dendroclimatology, dendroecology, dendrogeomorphology, dendroarchaeology and wood anatomy, and fosters cross-disciplinary links. Each topic includes keynote lectures, fieldwork and data production/analysis in small groups, supervised by an advanced scientist. Participants learn methods of field sampling, sample preparation, visual and statistical cross-dating, data production of tree-ring widths, blue reflectance, stable isotopes, cell size parameters, image analysis, statistical data analysis, and presentation of results. Participants and advanced scientists will spend the whole week together, and there is ample opportunity to learn, discuss and make new friends from all around the world. Participants can achieve 2.5 ECTS Credits.
