We have the pleasure to announce the 36th European Dendroecological Fieldweek, 28 August – 04 September 2026. It will take place in the scenic mountain village of Bardonecchia, in the south-western Italian Alps. This year the EDF will be organised again in close collaboration between the Dendrolabs of the WSL and the University of Torino, Italy. The Association for Tree-Ring Research ATR will support the event with some travel grants.

EDF is a course affiliated to the Oeschger Centre for Climate Change Research (OCCR), University of Bern. Therefore, successful participants can be provided with 2.5 ECTS points.

Travel information

EDF 2026 will take place in the Casa San Francesco, which is in Viale della Vittoria 63 in Bardonecchia. The venue is 1 km from the train station of Bardonecchia and can be easily reached by foot, taking the road just in front of the station to the left.

When arriving by plane

From Torino International Airport, use the train to reach Torino Porta Susa station (34-minute train ride, a train every 30 minutes). Then use the metro to reach Torino Porta Nuova train station (10-minutes ride, a metro train every few minutes), From Torino Porta Nuova take the train to Bardonecchia (90 minute train ride, one train every hour). The airports of Milano Malpensa, Milano Linate and Bergamo Orio al Serio are connected by bus or by train to Torino Porta Nuova.

When arriving by train

From Torino Porta Nuova, take the train to Bardonecchia (90-minute train raid, one train every hour). Then, use the Trenitalia train connection.

When arriving by bus

We strongly recommend using a train connection from Torino Porta Nuova to Bardonecchia.

When arriving by car

From Torino follow highway A32 direction Bardonecchia and Frejus.

We will stay in the Casa San Francesco, a spacious accommodation with an extended garden, lecture room and lab space located close to a river at the edge of the forest.
