Evaluation and application of terrestrial LiDAR for forest inventories

In forest inventories, where precise and reproducible measurements are crucial, fieldwork provides the most important collection of data. The rapid development of portable terrestrial laser scanning devices in the recent years, lead to the question whether they can be used for forest inventories to improve their explanatory power, especially where direct measurements are very expensive or impossible. However in terms of precision and reproducibility there are still some pending questions.
