At the WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF, we simulate future changes in snow cover.
Together with MeteoSwiss, we maintain a measuring network of automatic measuring stations and of over a hundred observers at the SLF. This way we have been measuring new snow and total snow depth on a daily basis for decades. These data form the basis for answering many snow-related questions. It allows us, for example, to assess the reliability of snow cover for a given area or to calculate an optimal cost-benefit ratio for protective measures.
