Abstract:
Rapid urbanisation and construction assert significant negative impact on local environments, ecosystems and humans. In this context, sustainability requirements are becoming increasingly complex. Landscape-based approaches can provide promising inroads to tackling complex sustainability problems in the planning and design of liveable green cities and architectures. This talk will introduce an integrative multi-domain and multi-scalar approach to planning and design that engages the notion of the Earth's Critical Zone and the way cities and architectures can have net positive impact on their local environments, ecosystems and humans.
