We frequently provide opportunities for students to conduct natural forest research for Master theses (Bachelor theses as well, if the need arises). We determine the topic along with the students. They can access our long-term data series and thus arrive at comprehensive conclusions. The principal supervisor is usually Prof. H. Bugmann (ETH (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology)) or Dr. Martina Hobi (WSL); other supervisors may also be appointed.

Student profile

Students at a university or technical college in a "green" discipline with sound knowledge of terrestrial ecology, particularly the botany of woody plants, Cat. B driving license, and an independent, expeditious and accurate approach to working. You are fit and sure-footed on steep slopes. Familiarity with R statistical software and ArcGIS an advantage. Good German or French required.
