Niklaus Zimmermann is again included in the list of "Highly Cited Researchers" in 2021 - for the 8th time in a row. His articles make him one of the 200 most influential environmental scientists worldwide.
The annual list identifies some 6,600 researchers from across the globe who demonstrated significant influence in their chosen field or fields through the publication of multiple highly cited papers during the last decade. Amongst them are 102 from Switzerland this year. In the field of "Environment and Ecology", 202 researchers are listed, including eight from Switzerland (three from ETH Zurich and one each from EMPA, EAWAG, WSL, the University of Lausanne and the University of Fribourg). This year, fewer Swiss researchers are listed than in previous years, because scientific articles with more than 30 authors are excluded, according to Clarivate.
In his research, Niklaus Zimmermann examines the causes of large-scale to global patterns of plant and animal biodiversity. Using empirical, dynamic and evolutionary models, he analyses and explains these patterns. Niklaus Zimmermann is Adjunct Professor at the ETH Zurich. He has co-authored around 200 scientific articles, two of which are most cited in the field of ecology and environmental science, as well as a highly regarded textbook.
The WSL congratulates him and his team on their scientific achievements!
The «Highly Cited Researchers» list
The US data analytics company Clarivate Analytics publishes the list annually. It identifies researchers who demonstrated significant influence in their chosen field or fields through the publication of multiple highly cited papers during the last decade. Their names are drawn from the publications that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and publication year in the Web of Science™ citation index. https://recognition.webofscience.com/awards/highly-cited/2021/
