Repetition of the forest soil inventory in Switzerland

In Switzerland, a forest soil inventory was last carried out in 1993 on the representative 8x8 km network (subnetwork of the LFI, as well as part of the ICP Forests Level I monitoring network). This sampling covered 172 forest sites and is thus the most comprehensive, statistically representative soil database of Swiss forest soils. The design of the monitoring network allows statistical statements of the soil condition in 1993 to be made for the whole of Switzerland using appropriate inventory statistics.

Through ongoing and possibly further follow-up inventories, the information can also be used to monitor changes in soil condition. Thanks to the connection of the 8x8 km network to the sampling network of the National Forest Inventory (LFI) and the Sanasilva inventory, there are also further diverse possibilities for the use and evaluation of the second forest soil inventory.
