Beate Jessel steps down as head of WSL and switches to EPFL

Beate Jessel, Director of WSL, is stepping down from this position as of 31 July 2023. She will take up her existing professorship for landscape development at EPFL on a full-time basis from 1 August in order to focus more strongly on research and teaching again, as can be read in the Federal Council’s media release of 28 June 2023.

The management and staff of WSL note this change with regret. Beate Jessel had been Director of WSL since September 2021. She has set positive impulses, e.g. by successfully leading WSL through a comprehensive evaluation in autumn 2022. In doing so, she also set the course for the future strategic development of WSL and initiated a comprehensive, participatory strategy development process. This process will continue after Beate Jessel's departure.

The ETH Board will decide on the succession process by September. The management of WSL will be taken over by Christoph Hegg in his function as Deputy Director.

The WSL Directorate and staff, as well as the ETH Board, would like to thank Beate Jessel for her great commitment as Director and wish her all the best and much success for the future.
